Configuration and administration
Create and attach skills
Create reusable analysis instructions and associate them with data agents.

A skill is a reusable set of analysis instructions defining the steps, metric definitions, and result format. After it is attached to a data agent, the agent reads its content when needed.
Skills define methods; business documents supply background knowledge, such as definitions, terminology, and business rules. The two complement each other.
Before you start
- Permissions: your project role must be Project owner or Project administrator. Ordinary members can ask questions but cannot modify this configuration.
- Entry point: main navigation on the left → “More” → “Skills” in the sidebar.
- To use “Refine through conversation”, the skill must be attached to at least one data agent.
Steps
Open the Skills page
Main navigation on the left → “More” → “Skills” in the sidebar. The Skills list appears on the left with “New from template” and “Create” buttons above. Before selecting a skill, the right side shows an empty state asking you to select one from the left to view and edit its full instructions.
Create from a template
Click “New from template” to open a dialog with the same title. Each template card shows a name and one-sentence description. Clicking one creates a project skill with the template's name, description, and content, then opens its detail page.
Available templates:
| Template | Description |
|---|---|
| Anomaly detection | Automatically find unusual data fluctuations and metric changes outside normal ranges |
| Trend forecasting | Predict future movements from historical data with trend analysis and prediction intervals |
| Stress testing | Simulate assumptions and scenarios to evaluate metric performance under extreme conditions |
| Metric drill-down | Break aggregate metrics down layer by layer to locate root causes |
| Report orchestration | Automatically generate structured data analysis reports |
| Comparison analysis | Compare objects across dimensions to uncover differences and opportunities |
| Attribution analysis | Identify core drivers of metric changes and quantify each factor's contribution |
| Metric interpretation | Explain data in business language so conclusions are accurate and easy to understand |
| Data quality checks | Proactively detect data quality problems to ensure trustworthy analysis |
| Business-language generation | Turn analysis results into engaging business narratives |
| Periodic analysis | Identify periodic patterns and analyze recurring fluctuations |
Or create from scratch
Click “Create”. In “Create skill”, enter a required name and optional description, then click “Create”. A skill created this way has an empty Content section that you must fill in yourself.
Write the skill content
The Content section explains that the agent receives these instructions verbatim when it activates the skill. Enter the complete instructions in the text box, then click “Save” at the top right.
Edit the name and description
Click “Edit” to open “Edit skill”, update its name and description, and save. Renaming does not affect agents already using the skill.
Attach it to a data agent
Sidebar → “Agents” → open the target agent → “Configuration” → “Skills”, whose description says agents can use one or more skills → “Add from template” or “Add”. An empty list says no skills have been added.
Refine through conversation
Once a skill is attached to an agent, “Refine through conversation” becomes available on its detail page. It opens a conversation with that skill so the agent can rewrite it based on your feedback. With no attached agent, the button is disabled and its tooltip says to attach the skill to an agent first.
Extract a skill from a conversation
In “All conversations”, a conversation's “Extract skill” action turns it into a new skill. The action is unavailable if the conversation is not bound to an agent; its tooltip says the source conversation must first be bound to an agent.
Key constraints
| Item | Value or default | Where to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Three skill fields | Name, description, content; content is passed verbatim to the agent | Skill details and “Edit skill” dialog |
| “Refine through conversation” | Disabled when no agent has the skill attached | Attach it under agent details → “Configuration” → “Skills” first |
| Template instantiation | Creates a project skill; editing it does not change the template | “New from template”, or the agent's “Add from template” |
| Available skill scope | With an agent, only that agent's selected skills load; without an agent, the entire project's skills are used | Agent details → “Configuration” → “Skills” |
| Skill deletion | Agent references are not removed along with it; the skill simply becomes unavailable | Icon menu at the top right of skill details → “Delete” |
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | How to identify it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Refine through conversation” is disabled | Skill is attached to no agents; tooltip says to attach it first | Attach under agent details → “Configuration” → “Skills” |
| “New from template” has no templates | Dialog says no skill templates are available | Use “Create” to start from scratch and write the full content |
| A skill is missing from the agent's Add dialog | No skills are available, or the skill is already attached and omitted from the selection | Check that the skill exists on the Skills page; already attached skills need not be added again |
| Agent does not follow the attached method | Agent details → Configuration → Skills says no skills added and does not show it | Add it again and confirm you are editing the intended agent |
| “Extract skill” is disabled | Tooltip says the source conversation needs an agent | Use a conversation bound to an agent or bind this conversation first |
